Episode 88 - Out of the Ashes
As a New Year begins, we have the opportunity to let go of thoughts, beliefs, habits, grievances and behaviors that no longer serve us, and then set our intentions from a new, 'cleared out' space. We do this symbolically through the ritual of the Burning Bowl. In this episode, we share our experience of letting go of blocks and setting intentions for the New Year. Be inspired to perform this ritual yourself as you discern who you want to be in the world and what blocks need to go.
NOTES
“The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.” Luke 17:21
Ask yourself:
Am I creating Heaven here on Earth as my life?
Am I expressing the beauty of my Divine (authentic) Self?
At the New Year, we can create anew, but first we must release. Some considerations for release:
Thoughts that are under habits and destructive behaviors, like:
I'm not good enough"
"I don't deserve"
"I need to be liked"
"I am a victim"
"There's not enough" "Someone is responsible for my well being"
"I am the only one who can dothis"
"I am a good person"
Judgments about other people: “They are….”
Beliefs that you inherited that don’t fit anymore:
Nature of Reality, God, humankind, Health, aging, etc.
Habits like what you eat and drink, the amount of sleep and exercise you get, etc.
Behaviors that do not support your life:
Procrastination, being late, not fulfilling agreements, blaming, shaming, resistance, being argumentative, submissive or too agreeable
Grievances and grudges you may still be carrying
Are you holding anyone responsible for your happiness or lack of happiness?
Are you carrying around anger or resentments?
Expectations of relationships
Identify views/roles of parents, siblings, spouses that obstruct your inner Joy
Like “My children need to be like me” or “My partner needs to complete me” or “My bad parents ruined my life.”
We write these down and put them into the flame of the Burning Bowl
Then we create!
Who do you want to be in the New Year?
What do you want to see in your life?
What do you want to create?
What Divine gifts do you want to cultivate this year?
NOTE: In the middle of recording this episode, those who were physically present participated in the Burning Bowl and Letter to God ceremony. In the future we will offer this meditation (and others) to Patrons of our podcast. We are not there yet. Stand by! In the meantime, if you want to do this at home, you can get flash paper. It can be purchased at any magic store. Come apart from the world and enter into the Silence or meditation. Quiet your mind and listen for what you are ready to release. Then when you are ready, write down on the flash paper (ours is just a 2"x 2" square), light a candle and drop the paper into the flame. Then write a letter to God (or your Higher Self) and declare your intentions going forward. It is as simple as that.
Dialogue and Inquiry
If you feel comfortable, share what you chose to release.
In the past, have you released something only to find that it still sticks around? What do you do with that?
If you feel comfortable, share who you want to be in 2020. What will you do to keep your intention?
Share your experience of the Burning Bowl and letter to God.
Closing Thought
As the new year begins, I have the opportunity to begin anew and joyfully co-create my life. I reflect and identify thoughts and behaviors that do not serve the beauty of my Divine Nature. I release grievances, judgments and fears, and open myself to fully imagine all the possibilities the year might hold. I embrace the ideas that arise within me and reinvigorate my soul.
