Episode 26 - Ten Spiritual Truths: Focus!

So what's a graven image? In the story of Exodus, graven images were carved statues that people worshiped as gods. The proverbial golden calf is most famous. Today we don't do such things. But we do a lot of other things that reveal what our life priorities really are, and what activities/beliefs we put before our experience of God.

All major religions have some form of ‘rules for life’

Exodus 20: “Then God spoke all these words: 

1. ‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me.’

2. “You shall not make for yourself an idol, of any form.” ”

Idols/Graven Images:

What we worship instead of or put before God

Ways we place our faith in physical reality versus spiritual reality

Also where our belief goes when we are impatient with Divine timing

Today's Idols:

Physical: phones, cars, bank accounts, computers, TV, screens, physical appearance, disease

Worldly activities: politics, time, the news, busyness, work

Beliefs/thoughts: importance of other people's opinions/validation, perfection, belief in lack, low self-esteem, unworthiness, arrogance, hate, power, victimization, negativity, what is missing, fear

Dialogue Questions:

Name the ‘idols/graven images’that you tend to put before your awareness of Spirit. Where does your mind dwell?

What are some of the things that distract your attention from your spiritual practice?

What comes between you and your Good?

Share a story when you worked through a ‘graven image’ situation and remembered your Truth.

Affirmation

God the Good is all the existence there is. God alone has power in my life. Fear, hate, disease and lack have no presence, power or reality. These are idols which I release. I focus instead on the One Source, Supply, Love, Intelligence and Creativity that is God. There is only God.
