Episode 133 - Wisdom to Know the Difference
Wisdom is our ability to discern, evaluate and make decisions. It is also our inner guidance/intuition and judging with spiritual discernment. With wisdom, we draw upon Spirit for guidance and make the highest and best conclusion for all. It’s a completely different function from the intellect which draws upon knowledge and tries to figure things out. On the spiritual path, we learn to use our inner wisdom rather than look to the outer world to discern what is right - be it right direction, right choice, or right action. In this episode, we share how we have evolved in Divine wisdom and how it serves us when we are faced with lofty decisions or uncertainty.
NOTES:
No matter what we are facing in life - easy or hard - our ability to navigate through it with ease and grace rests on the rigor of our spiritual practice
12 Powers of Man - a spiritual practice
Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore identified 12 Powers of Man
Agents that direct our mind
Each power assigned to a disciple of Jesus
Divine Wisdom is
Our ability to discern, evaluate and make decisions
Inner guidance /intuition
Judge with 'right' judgment, or spiritual judgment
It is what discerns the voice of Spirit from the voice of our ego and draws upon Spirit for guidance, and make the 'highest and best' conclusion
Intellect: Overt thinking process, weighing pros and cons, reasoning, making lists, resides in the head
Wisdom: Arises from within, resides in the pit of the stomach
Story of Solomon:
Solomon – King David’s son
Assumes throne at young age
God came to him in a dream and said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” (1 Kings 3:5)
Solomon asked for "a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong." (1 Kings 3:7)
"Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you” (1 Kings 4:4)
Two women lived together under the same roof, both with infant sons. One of the babies died. His mother claims the other mother's son as her own
Who was the real mother?
We learn to use our inner wisdom rather than look to the outer world to discern what is
Within us is a power that is more than capable of leading and directing us in every experience that comes our way
The process of discernment is different for each of us
For some, ‘aha!’
For others, a ‘working through’
Dialogue and Inquiry
When you look at the totality of your life, how have you grown in wisdom? Share how your wisdom/discernment has served you in your life.
Share a time when you deferred to intellect rather than wisdom. What happened? How did that experience inform you going forward?
What is your process of discernment?
How do you discern the difference between the voice of ego and Spirit?
Share a Solomon story in your own life - a time when your wisdom guided you to see Truth in a 'non-intellect' way?
What is your wisdom telling you to do now?
Closing Thought
When I am faced with a decision, I quiet my mind and go within to tap into the power of my inherent wisdom. I reach beyond my intellectual knowledge and life experience and allow the indwelling Spirit to reveal the right course of action. There is no one else for me to call upon to direct my life.
